About

Hi! Thank you all so much for coming to this little corner of the internet.

I decided to throw this little blurb about me out there because this is truly a hobby that I want to dive deeper into, but it basically has nothing to do with “professional me.” But, that’s okay because it provides an oasis for me away from work and everyday life!

I am a late 20-something who grew up in a small town in the foothills of North Carolina. I LOVED reading as I was growing up. Junie B. Jones and the Magic Treehouse when I was little turned into The Clique series and Nicholas Sparks as I got older.

I got accepted to Appalachian State University (Go’Neers!) and chose Political Science as my major. I was going to be the girl on the Hill working her ass off as a lobbyist for some group, somewhere. This quickly changed when I learned that this major required more math classes than I was ever willing to take. So the next switch was in the same family but now I was going to be a High School History teacher. Learning about history (US history specifically) and trying to be the best educator I could be, was my goal. After 2 years in this major, it just was not for me. Educators, you deserve all the praise and good things because I never even had my own classroom and I know what an up-hill battle it can be everyday. The last switch came my senior year. To still be able to graduate on time, it had to be something that shared a lot of classes that I had already taken in my other majors. General History with a concentration in Law and Criminal Justice is what I landed on. It was fun, it was intriguing, I don’t regret a bit of it.

During that last year, I had to read, read, and then read some more. After all that reading, there was usually a 10-25 page paper to be turned in on what you read. This sucked the joy of reading for pleasure right out of me. Why would I want to sit down and read a 300 page novel after I had done that for homework that week? Don’t get me wrong, I would still read going on a trip or on Summer break maybe, but not like I used to and I never enjoyed it as I once did..

That was 5 years ago. I would like to say I was encouraged to read more during the Covid lockdowns, but I was too busy working, drinking, and hanging out with a small circle of friends. Honestly, and I think I’m as embarrassed to say this as couples who get married after matching on Tinder, but, I started reading again because I was influenced by all the people reading and putting their book reviews out there on TikTok.

So here we are. I work for a locally-owned brewery in the Mountains of NC as their Operations Manager. I started with the company right after college as a server, had a couple detours, but came back about 3 years ago as General Manager and worked up to what I’m doing now. I really do love my job; the Craft Beer community is one of the best that I’ve ever been a part of. Because I have met so many people, which I am so thankful for, most days I feel like I’m “on” and need to be that engaging extrovert that this job requires. This contradicts my introverted personality. Waking up in the morning and reading a few pages with a cup of coffee has become my favorite part of my day. Coming home and getting a few more pages in before I go to bed has become my second favorite.

This is going to be mostly short reviews of all the books I’m reading sprinkled with posts about life, work, and probably my dogs. I’m so excited to share with you all and I hope that I will reinvigorate that avid reader in you that maybe has gone away for a little while just as I did. Or that I could quite possibly inspire one of you to find the love of reading for the first time, because trust me, it is magical to be lost in a good book.

Cheers y’all!
